It isn’t long until entries open to the 2017 Battle on the Beach event. Previous editions have sold out completely in under 24hrs with 800 riders taking part last year!
Since its inception in 2014 we have been ensuring that the event is better year on year, without impacting what it is that everyone loves about the unique event.
Here is what to expect in 2017:
Improved course – We have listened to riders feedback and changed the course design slightly, with the biggest change being that Lap 3 will be on a different course to Laps 1 or 2 on the return leg after the beach. This will that riders don’t have to worry about faster riders overtaking and also for the faster riders to have a clear run to the finish line. The full distance will also be similar (3 full laps) at around 45km total.
Camp site area – Due to planned work within Pembrey Country Park, we will be using a new campsite area for everyone at the event. Showers & toilets will be present, but no electric hook-ups. If you wish to have electric, this is possible but it must be booked via Pembrey Country Park directly. The new camping area is open to tents, campers and caravans and is just a few hundred meters from the event arena.
Lezyne Battle in the Dark – It is back!! After it proving to be a huge success last time the single lap night time trial will return on Saturday 25th.
Entry is included with the weekend pass (entry on the day possible for all others, entry fee £10). Riders will be set off at 20 second intervals just after sunset. £100 prize for fastest male & female riders with prizes for 10th, 20th, 30th and so on.
Surly Magic Lap – Your chance to WIN a Surly frameset – and all you have to do is ride. At some point before the we will set a “magic lap” time. Whoever matches, or gets closest to the lap time during the event wins the frameset.
Halo Fat Bike UK Championships – We are delighted to announce the event will once again host the Halo Fat Bike Championships. Eligible for all bikes with 3.5″ tyres and above, which means standard plus sizes are not eligible.
Youth Races – Once again we will have races available for all ages, with U8, U10 and U12 to U14 events taking place on Saturday afternoon. These are kindly being organised by Ystwyth Cycling Club.
Ages 14+ can take part in the main event.
Improved entry system – We have a new entry system in place which will hopefully make it quick and easy for everyone to enter and is compatible with mobile devices. Secure payment will be via a debit/credit card only and we accept all major cards.
What stays the same – Everything that makes the event unique will remain the same. A mass start with 3 laps of a 15km course for all standard categories (2 laps for fun race). All bikes are welcome and all take part in the same race. Mountain bikes, cross bikes, tandems, fat bikes, beach racers and everything in between.
Main race only – £30
Weekend pass, which includes up to 3 nights camping & Battle in the Dark entry – £40
